DIARY NO 9

It’s Time to Spread Your Wings and Fly Like a Butterfly

As we emerge from our self-imposed cocoons, we are ready to hit the beaches, dine with friends and fly away on a jet plane. Join us for some of our favorite summertime finds.

By Sarah Hallow & Sarah Lakew

Proper Hotel: San Francisco

We are dying to travel again and the top destination is the Proper Hotel in San Francisco. The design, by style maven Kelly Wearstler, is beyond chic! We love everything about their San Francisco location (there’s another Proper Hotel in Austin). All the pops of color and use of pattern is crazy, but somehow all works! It’s our favorite.

Circular Fireplace!!

With California on our mind, we want to bop on down to the Parker in Palm Springs, just to have a cocktail around the retro circular fireplace in the lobby lounge. With funky accents like macramé and tribal rugs, Jonathan Adler proves he can pull off the 70’s in a fresh new way!

Mackesy’s Book of Illustrations is a Must-Have

If you haven’t purchased Charlie Mackesy’s The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse rush now to your nearest bookstore! This charming book of illustrations provides a window into the human heart. At once innocent yet deeply moving, this is a must read during this time of uncertainty. LOVE!

Dedicated to the Discovery of Magical Places

Cheap Old Houses Instagram feed takes thrift market shopping to a whole new level! It became a hit during COVID-19. As they went around the world to locate hidden gems and historic homes with tons of potential, everyone was ready to run away and escape. The deals are unbelievable, but be ready to get out your hammer and saw!

Contemporary Artist

We’re in love with the art of Canadian Synnove Seidman. She finds beauty in the everyday and as she says, “I am inspired by nature, it is my cathedral.” Her use of color is stunning!

Anna Spiro Textiles

We’ve recently discovered the whimsical textile and wallcovering line by Anna Spiro. Her latest collection, Islet, is inspired by the journey and destination of the Island escape. Perfect for the summer cottage!

Petite Landscapes

Who doesn’t love a tiny painting? And these “petite landscapes” by Alabama native Laurel-Dawn Latshaw are totally adorable. Perfect on a bookshelf or as part of a salon wall. Laurel-Dawn has always drawn inspiration from nature and strives to glorify beauty that already exists from her small corner of the world; embracing the delicate, yet messy process of being an artist.

Wild Fig & Cassis

Wild Fig and Cassis cologne by Jo Malone is to die for. As they say in the description, “Plump, sun-warmed figs blend with juicy cassis and the purity of pine and bracing cedarwood.” Summers on the Mediterranean are beckoning us!

Abstract Embroidery Art

Embroidery and needlepoint are suddenly all the rage and Salt Stitches by Emily Botelho offers unique abstract pieces as art or as a DIY option if you’re feeling creative. Check out the mini hoops – what could be cuter?

The Official Chicago Summer Patio-Dining List
