DIARY NO 5
Fall in Line
with These Design Ideas
Fall is here and we’re ready to pull out the cashmere, light the fire and test our latest apple pie recipe. Whether we are cozying it up at our weekend gateway in SW Michigan or walking Teddy along the streets of the Gold Coast lined with trees of vibrant color, we love this time of year. Below please find some of our favorites both old and new that transcend any season. Enjoy!
By James Dolenc & Tom Riker
Astier de Villatte Candles
We first found these amazing candles (because who doesn’t need another?) in their little shop in Paris on the rue de Richelieu. The scents are uniquely aromatic and we love the ceramic lids that you purchase to provide the perfect way to display your candle when not lit. Our favorite is Namche Bazar – smoky hints of black tea, tobacco and hay blend with verbena and lavandin to create an enticing aroma!
Dakor Custom Color Appliances
We’re so excited that Dacor is offering custom color capabilities for their residential appliances. An avocado oven is bound to make a comeback!!
Salt of the Earth
Anytime of the year is a great time to visit one of our faves in SW Michigan but Fall allows us to devour their tasty bread and scrumptious entrees a bit more guilt-free. The cocktails are unique and delicious and manager Matt Campbell is the consummate host. Run here when you’re in the hood!
Owners Ray Attanasio and Stephen Abeles curate stunning furniture and objects d’art from their travels throughout Europe and around the globe. When in the big apple be sure to check out their showroom on 61st Street and sign up for their eblasts. We love “Balsamo Bits” at the end of their eblasts which provide a little tidbit or personal recommendation by Ray and Steve.
Just call Kyle. It’s a mantra we live by at our studio. Kyle Bretland is the master of all things related to specialty framing and really just about anything that you might need to have restored or refurbished. Armand Lee is a must!
Rhubarb Custard Cake
Yes, yes we know that rhubarb is out of season but we had to share this recipe. It’s so simple and delicious and you can use any fruit. We can’t wait to try this with apples we pick up at the South Haven farmer’s market this fall.
Bebe & Lenox
Bebe and Lenox are an amazing source for great priced, well designed furniture. The Phase 2 collection will be a perfect fit for our Michigan cottage project. Can’t wait to start placing orders!
We’re loving the vibe of all the fabrics and wall coverings that Peter Fasano designs; whimsical and playful – perfect for a weekend getaway yet sophisticated enough to mix in to any urban project. Each design has a real artisan feel that we adore!
Vaughan Tribal Collection Lampshades
Let there be light! Nothing creates a cozy, bespoke environment like a custom lampshade! Vaughn’s new Tribal Collection offers vibrant lampshades handmade with limited runs of fabric to ensure that each piece is unique yet timeless. These are the perfect way to dress up your home!
